In today's threat environment, every employee — regardless of role, seniority, or technical background — is both a potential target and a critical line of defense. This course provides every member of your organization with the foundational cybersecurity knowledge needed to recognize, avoid, and report the threats that target Canadian businesses every day.

What You Will Learn

This course is structured across four chapters covering the full spectrum of cybersecurity awareness for corporate employees:

• Chapter 1 — The Threat Landscape: Why cybersecurity matters in the Canadian corporate context; the real financial and regulatory cost of a data breach; case studies from healthcare and legal sectors; the three stakeholders who care about your security posture (clients, regulators, insurers).
• Chapter 2 — Core Security Concepts: The CIA Triad (Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability) and how to apply it; the difference between threats, vulnerabilities, and risk; the defense-in-depth model and your role within it.
• Chapter 3 — Attack Types and Threat Actors: Malware taxonomy (viruses, ransomware, spyware, trojans, worms, rootkits); social engineering tactics including all major phishing variants; insider threat categories and warning signs; supply chain attacks and the SolarWinds/3CX case studies.
• Chapter 4 — Your Role in Cybersecurity: Daily security habits and the security checklist; working from home securely; mobile and BYOD security; reporting suspicious activity and the incident response flowchart.

Learning Objectives

Upon completing this course, you will be able to:

1. Identify the categories of cyber threats targeting Canadian corporate employees and explain why human behavior is the most exploited attack vector
2. Apply the CIA Triad framework to evaluate security decisions in everyday work scenarios
3. Recognize phishing, spear phishing, vishing, smishing, social engineering, and pretexting attempts
4. Distinguish between malware types and explain how ransomware operates in a modern double-extortion model
5. Identify insider threat warning signs and understand the appropriate reporting procedure
6. Apply daily security habits including screen locking, email hygiene, password management, and clean desk practices
7. Follow the correct protocol for reporting security incidents, including which channel to use and what information to provide
8. Explain Canada's PIPEDA breach notification obligations and understand how your report starts the compliance clock

Who This Course Is For

This course is designed for all corporate employees — no technical background required. Whether you are in finance, operations, administration, client services, legal, healthcare, or IT, the threats described in this course target every role and every industry. The course assumes no prior cybersecurity knowledge and uses plain language throughout.

Prerequisites

None. This is an introductory course designed to be accessible to all employees regardless of technical background.

Duration

Approximately 2 hours of instructional content, plus graded knowledge checks and a 30-minute final assessment.

Grading and Certificate

This course uses a weighted grading model:

• Knowledge Checks (30%): Three graded knowledge checks at the end of Chapters 1, 2, and 3. Each check allows 2 attempts. Answers are shown after completion.
• Final Assessment (70%): A 15-question final exam covering all four chapters, with a 30-minute time limit. One attempt only.
• Passing Grade: 70%

Employees who achieve a passing grade will receive the Certificate in Cybersecurity Fundamentals for Corporate Employees, issued by Binarium Corp. The certificate is available for download and LinkedIn sharing upon course completion.
