Data Privacy: GDPR & PIPEDA Compliance is a comprehensive training program designed for Binarium Corp employees who collect, use, or manage personal information in their daily work. This course equips every team member — from front-line staff to managers — with the knowledge to handle personal data responsibly, recognize compliance obligations under Canadian and European privacy law, and respond correctly when things go wrong.
What You Will Learn
- Define personal information and sensitive personal information under Canadian law (PIPEDA)
- Apply PIPEDA's 10 Fair Information Principles to day-to-day data handling activities
- Distinguish between express and implied consent, and manage consent withdrawal correctly
- Identify when a privacy breach triggers mandatory notification under PIPEDA and GDPR
- Understand GDPR's territorial scope, six lawful bases for processing, and data minimization requirements
- Respond to data subject rights requests (access, erasure, portability, objection) within legal timelines
- Use Standard Contractual Clauses and other mechanisms for lawful cross-border data transfers
- Apply Privacy by Design principles and conduct Privacy Impact Assessments
- Fulfill your daily obligations: least privilege access, clean desk policy, secure disposal
- Understand the penalty landscape: OPC enforcement under PIPEDA and GDPR fines up to €20M or 4% global revenue
Prerequisites
No prior legal or privacy expertise is required. Basic computer literacy and familiarity with Binarium Corp's standard office environment are sufficient. This course is suitable for all staff regardless of role or department.
Certificate
Learners who achieve 70% or higher on the combined assessments (Homework: 30%, Final Exam: 70%) receive a Binarium Corp Certificate of Completion in Data Privacy: GDPR & PIPEDA Compliance.
Duration
Approximately 2.5 hours of instructional content plus assessments.
